Cataleya Wellness Prenatal Massage

Massage Therapy

Massage is the manipulation of soft tissues in the body. Massage techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearms, or feet.
The use of massage therapy dates back as far as the 700s BC. Evidence of massage practiced in medicine is found as far back as ancient Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Thai, and Ayurvedic medicines. Modern day massage, also known as “Swedish Massage” or “Classic Massage” was developed by Pehr Henrik Ling, a Swedish Physical Therapist in the 1800s. He is considered the “Father” of classic massage.
In the U.S. today, all but 6 states require massage therapists to be licensed. Licensure requires the applicant to receive training at an accredited school, as well as pass a board exam. Those states that require licensure also typically require continuing education in massage techniques and ethics. New York State license requirements along with the board exam to obtain a massage therapist license is one of the most rigorous in the country.

Swedish, Sports, and Deep Tissue massage. It combines long, gliding, nurturing, and calming
strokes to improve circulation and induce deep relaxation with deep pressure, trigger point work
and stretches to alleviate muscle pain, improve range of motion, and rid the body of knots and
adhesions. This massage helps with recovery from sports injuries as well as restoration from
“desk job syndrome”. Your session and the amount of pressure applied is 100% customized to
your needs. Walk in, experience the best massage you’ve ever had, and glide out.
You will be pampered with:
- A glass of charcoal infused water or a warm cup of tea upon your arrival
- Table heater that is adjusted to your comfort level that will have you feeling warm and cozy
- Soothing music and a white noise machine to help you tune out those busy thoughts and
drift off into the land of relaxation and rejuvenation
- Soft sheets, pillows, and bolsters for your ultimate comfort
- A written intake and a verbal consult with your therapist to ensure a tailored session just
for you

price. There is never an additional charge for specific techniques like Trigger Point Therapy
or Myofascial Release.

- Following every session you are sent home with “homework” consisting of tips and tricks
for self-care that will help you find relief between massages. These may be stretches,
exercise, self-massage techniques or dietary and lifestyle changes.
How to Prepare for Your Cataleya Wellness Massage:
- Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time to fill out the intake form
- Refrain from eating a heavy meal at least two hours before your massage. Receiving a
massage in a face-down position on a full stomach wouldn’t be very comfortable.
- Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water before and after your session.
- Share your goals for the session with your therapist (i.e. relieve pain, release tension,
just relax, etc.).
- Notify your therapist of any medical conditions, pre-existing injuries, or any surgeries that
you have had in the past.
- If you are expecting, please let your therapist know that you are pregnant and how far
along in your pregnancy you are so that your therapist can prepare for a prenatal
session with an appropriate set up. If you are scheduling a session for a loved one who
is pregnant, please book a prenatal massage.
