Schedule online. It's easy, fast and secure.

Chinese herbal medicine has been around for many centuries. It is one of the most sophisticated herbal medicine systems in the world.

Chinese herbs can be taken internally or applied topically as liniments for aches and pains. They can also be used as creams and masks for cosmetic purposes. Additionally, Chinese herbs work well in baths and foot soaks for detox and cleansing purposes.

Chinese herbs can be used as an independent healing system or in conjunction with your acupuncture treatments. An herbal formula is generally created from 4-20 herbs that are customized specifically to your health needs. As your health needs change, your formula is adjusted and evolves as well. Just as one’s health is dynamic, so is their herbal prescription.

Chinese Herbal Formulas Can Be Dispensed in a Number of Different Ways:

Chinese herbal decoctions or teas_edited

Chinese Herbal Decoctions
or Teas:
Cooked utilizing raw herbs, this is the most traditional way to prepare an herbal formula in China. It hasn’t been the most popular in the U.S. as it involves a long preparation time, has a strong smell, and a strong and often unpleasant (to the western palate) taste. To tackle these difficulties, Kamwo herbal pharmacy in NYC offers preparation services (for an additional fee). They also encapsulate raw herbs, taking out the time commitment, along with the strong smell and taste of cooking herbs on your own.

Patent Formulas: These are pre-made Chinese herbal formulas and come in tea-pill, tablet or capsule form. This is the most prevalently used form of herbs  outside of China because of its ease of consumption and high compliance rate.

Herbal Granules.jpg

Granules: These herbs are sold in powder form, need to be mixed with hot water and consumed while still warm. This method is more
convenient and less time
consuming, ensuring higher compliance.

Liniments:  These are herbal creams, balms, compresses and plasters used for external application to temporarily relieve musculoskeletal aches and pains.

Herbal tinctures.jpg

Tinctures: Herbal tinctures are liquid herbal extracts that are steeped in alcohol for several weeks. Their advantage is that they are very easy
to consume.
Usually a teaspoon can
be mixed with water or juice, making
it better tasting and
more pleasant.
